Battery backup
Backup is the most common starting point, and the one most often sized on a guess. The useful question is not how many kilowatt hours you want. It is which circuits must stay live, and for how long.
Worth knowing
A backup system carries the load it was designed for. Adding a geyser or an oven to a system sized for essentials will shorten runtime or trip the inverter.
Peak power against stored energy
Two numbers decide whether a backup system feels adequate. The inverter's continuous rating sets how much can run at once. The battery's usable capacity sets how long.
Undersize the inverter and the system trips when the kettle and the microwave meet. Undersize the battery and it holds up for twenty minutes. We size both against a load list we build with you.
Essential-load design
We separate the circuits that need to ride through an outage onto a dedicated distribution board, clearly labelled so anyone working on the property later understands the split.
That separation is what keeps a modest system genuinely useful, and it is what makes a later expansion straightforward.
A foundation for solar
A backup system installed with the right inverter and cabling can usually accept panels later. Installed without that consideration, adding generation can mean replacing equipment.
If solar is a likely second phase, we say so during the assessment and design the first phase to accept it.

Common questions
- What is the difference between inverter power and battery capacity?
- Inverter power, measured in kVA or kW, is how much can run at the same time. Battery capacity, measured in kWh, is how much energy is stored. You need enough of both, and they are priced separately.
- Will backup alone reduce my bill?
- No. A battery charged from the grid shifts when you buy electricity, it does not generate any. Bill reduction comes from solar generation. Backup buys continuity.
