For a client stepping into retirement at their spacious seafront property, we crafted a sophisticated, phased energy solution that could grow with their evolving needs. Spanning seven stages, this project showcases the impressive modularity and versatility of the Victron product range. Starting with a 5kVA inverter and 5kWh battery backup, the system expanded into a powerful 10kVA inverter with 20kWh of battery storage and a robust 11kWp PV array of 26 panels.
To optimize efficiency, we designed the system with both AC-coupled and DC-coupled configurations: AC coupling ensures maximum efficiency in delivering power to household loads, while DC coupling optimizes battery charging, making the entire setup remarkably energy-efficient and effective.
We also incorporated an EV charger to enhance the client’s green lifestyle. Leveraging the 3-phase grid supply, we configured it for flexible charging options—fast-charging up to 22kW on 3-phase or regular charging at 8kW on single-phase. The Victron EV charger further integrates with the Energy Storage System (ESS), allowing it to draw only from excess PV power once batteries are fully charged and all loads are met. This advanced, adaptable setup allows our client to enjoy a sustainable and luxurious coastal lifestyle with uninterrupted, efficient energy.

For our friend and talented graphic designer at OxyDEV in Vredenburg, uninterrupted power for a home office was a must-have, especially with the ongoing challenges of Stage 6 load shedding. Previously, the power disruptions forced them to sacrifice precious family time, often working at odd hours and grabbing only short bursts of sleep to accommodate the unreliable grid schedule.
Despite its compact size, the solution we implemented powers over half the household, even reaching areas connected to separate DB boards. This system ensures that work flows smoothly and family time is no longer compromised, providing the peace of mind that comes from knowing power interruptions are a thing of the past.

A retired couple reached out with two straightforward goals: eliminate load shedding disruptions and reduce their electricity bill. With a setup featuring a 5kVA inverter, a 5kWh lithium-ion battery, and a modest array of solar panels, we successfully met both objectives, ensuring a steady power supply and lower utility costs.
To add convenience, we installed a small LED indicator light inside the main house to signal load shedding events, as the system itself was housed in a separate building. Recently, we upgraded their battery capacity to 14.3kWh, further minimizing their reliance on the grid. Thanks to this enhancement, their annual electricity costs now average under R500, covering only essential winter usage—a remarkable shift toward energy independence.

This project began as a straightforward request from a professional couple who, after rediscovering the charm of their holiday home in Langebaan during the pandemic, decided to make it their permanent residence. Nestled in a stunning coastal village with panoramic views of the lagoon, their three-story property required a tailored energy solution that could grow with their needs.
Initially, their main priority was to ensure the lift - essential for their grandchildren - could run seamlessly, even during outages. We recommended a 5kW inverter to cover the lift, all lighting, and outlets throughout the entire home - a feat that few brands of 5kW inverters can manage for a property of this scale. In Phase 2, we introduced a substantial array of PV panels, providing so much solar power that the battery was fully charged by 9 a.m.! As their energy needs evolved, Phases 3 and 4 expanded their battery bank to 20kWh, ensuring ample storage for their growing solar capacity.
With additional PV panels installed in a later phase, we added another 5kWh of battery storage, bringing their system to a powerful 10kW hybrid inverter, 25kWh of battery backup, and 20 PV panels distributed across two MPPTs. The setup is further enhanced by Node-RED scripts, optimizing energy management to power this stunning property rain or shine. This six-phase journey is a testament to the beauty of a well-planned, modular system, delivering seamless, off-grid capability while the couple enjoys their idyllic coastal lifestyle.

After spending over a decade working abroad to save for their dream home, this couple returned to settle down and launch two businesses from their residence. With reliable power being essential for their work and household, we proposed a phased approach, starting with a solid battery backup system and leaving room for future solar PV integration.
Thanks to Victron’s modular design, this setup provides the flexibility to expand both output capacity and backup storage as their needs grow. In the latest phase, we added eight 540W solar panels and upgraded the battery to 7.4kWh, ensuring even greater energy independence. And with the recent arrival of their newborn, the system now offers the extra assurance they need to keep both their businesses and family life running seamlessly in their hard-earned home.

Our client approached us with two main objectives: to eliminate load shedding and reduce reliance on grid power. We designed a multi-phase project that would adapt to their evolving needs, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal for their home.
In Phase 1, we began with a small 15kWh/day PV generator, initially using six 415W panels, paired with a 3kVA inverter and a 3.5kWh battery backup. This setup achieved a substantial 50% reduction in grid consumption. In Phase 2, we expanded their storage by adding another 3.5kWh battery, reducing grid reliance by an additional 10-15% and doubling the backup duration during load-shedding.
As the project progressed, we saw an opportunity to optimize the PV system further. Wanting to expand beyond six panels, we recognized that new panels would differ in size from the original ones. To maintain a cohesive and elegant look for the property, we bought back the six initial panels and replaced them with nine 540W panels, ensuring the system met the estate’s aesthetic standards.
In Phase 4, we upgraded the inverter from 3kVA to 5kVA and added a third battery, enhancing both capacity and backup coverage. This final phase completed a versatile, reliable power system that balances robust functionality with refined design, delivering uninterrupted energy and a seamless integration with the home’s surroundings.
